Sony Xperia X concept
We reckon some concept designs really should be real – which is why we love this Sony Xperia X Concept – which borrows from the design language of the Xperia Tablet S. The (admittedly fake) specs impress, too. There’s a 4.6in display, mini-HDMI port, microSD expansion, and the Xperia logo even lights up as an illuminator for notifications. We think Sony should take note of these subtle designs.

Jony Ive takes Apple design team to London for D&AD Award win
Sir Jonathan Ive, famed Apple designer, has jetted over to London with the entire Apple design team to collect the D&AD Award honouring Apple for being the best brand and the best design studio of the last 50 years – helped along by gadgets like the iPhone 5. We agree they’ve earned it – but rivals like Nokia are coming up with equally innovative designs.

Jacket cuts off phone signals for peace and quiet
The office is constantly troubled by mobile phone calls entreating him to review new products and begging his attendance at meetings. Fortunately, he can now enjoy a blissful period of silence thanks to this jacket from Victor Johansson, who has created a jacket with a Faraday cage in the pocket. Slip your mobile in and it’ll be cut off from all signals, giving you peace. There’s even NFC to turn off your aerial and save battery if you phone has that built-in.

Never have our eyes been wider than when looking at this Lego machine. Built over two years by a Lego fanatic in his own home, the Lego Great Ball Contraption contains 17 modules including a ball factory, zigzag stairs, a belt conveyor and pinball.
