After pulling back the curtain on its flagship Nokia Lumia 920 handset in New York, Nokia introduced another Windows Phone 8 blower – the mid-range Lumia 820.

Like its big brother, the Lumia 820 packs in a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, backed up by 1GB of RAM. Its 8GB memory is a touch stingy, but it can be expanded with microSD cards up to 32GB. It also features the same NFC tech as the Lumia 920, letting you pair it up with Nokia‘s new range of wireless accessories.

On the front, it sports a slightly smaller 4.3in OLED WVGA screen with 800×400 resolution, plus Nokia’s ClearBlack technology and the same super sensitive touch screen tech that lets you tap away on the screen even while wearing gloves.

Round the back, Nokia’s added a retro flourish in the form of swappable shells – very 1990s. As well as letting you pick and choose the colour of your Lumia 820 from Nokia’s vibrant line-up (including a rather fetching new purple hue), you can also pick up a wireless charging shell.

The Lumia 820 also comes packing an 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a dual LED flash that’ll shoot 1080p HD footage, along with a front-facing VGA snapper.

Details on pricing and availability have yet to be revealed, but check back for details as we have them – and our hands-on observations.
