Meet the Samsung Galaxy Camera that runs Android, has apps [IFA]
As predicted a few days ago, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Camera at IFA. The first snapper of its kind, it features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, app compatibility, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G and a large 4.8-inch touchscreen.
It’s a chimeric-looking device, seemingly a phone from the back and a regular point-and-shoot from the front, on which you’ll find a 21x optical zoom with a maximum aperture of F2.8. There’s a 16-megapixel sensor and 8GB of built-in storage, plus a microSD slot if you need more.
The Android functionality is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, and allows you to use pretty much any app (yes, you can play Angry Birds on it). Obviously these include image-centric apps like Instagram and Facebook, where the sharing aspect comes into sharp focus. There’ll be a 4G/Wi-Fi version and a 3G/Wi-Fi version available.
One thing we’re keen to test out is the general usability of the camera: does the touchscreen help or hinder the user? We’ll try and get our hands on the Galaxy Camera as soon as possible to find out.
