Assassin’s Creed III

October 31th 2012 – Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC
The newest Assassin’s Creed outing introduces a fresh-faced tomahawk-wielding assassin, Connor. Unlike previous instalments, there’s more countryside to traverse – so you’ll have to rely on Connor’s improved climbing abilities to lurk in the treetops. There’s an array of new toys to play with as well as even more brutal ways to take out targets. With the added inclusion of naval combat there should be more than enough to keep you busy when the epic conclusion is released later this year.

October 12th 2012 – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Become a supernatural assassin in this steampunk-inspired stealth/action thriller with the ability to teleport and possess targets. The game is tailored to suit your style, so whether you want to run across rooftops guns blazing or hide in the shadows to take out your target, the decision is yours. Developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda, this is definitely one to keep on your gaming radar.

Halo 4

November 6th 2012 – Xbox 360
Halo 4 marks the return of Master Chief, with some fresh weapons, a cool new suit and a crazed A.I. girlfriend to boot. With all new enemies to kill (including the legendary Forerunners), more maps and the promise of some old school trigger-happy multiplayer, Halo 4 should satisfy the appetite of loyal Haloists and Covenant-killing newcomers alike.

Watch Dogs

2013 –  Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
In a time where sequels and prequels are the industry’s bread and butter, it’s highly refreshing to see something completely new brought to the table. Chicago is your open playground and technology is your best friend. Infiltrate CCTV, hack into mobile phones and change traffic lights to assassinate your enemies. Think GTA meets The Social Network – minus the senseless violence and status updates.

Star Wars 1313

2013 – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Star Wars 1313 ditches the Jedi and lightsabers of recent games, and puts you in the shoes of a bounty hunter sent into the slums of Coruscant for some damage control. It’s essentially Uncharted in space, which looks as good as it sounds. Its jaw-droppingly beautiful graphics shown off at E3 are unlikely to find their way onto current-gen consoles, so we’re hoping that it’s an early glimpse into the hallowed world of next-gen gaming.

Grand Theft Auto V

Release date unknown – PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3
It’s been two years since the last GTA release, Episodes from Liberty City, and the itch to play more Grand Theft Auto has never been so keenly felt. The bleak streets of New York are replaced by the blue skys and warm glamour of Los Santos, California – although with only a two minute trailer and a couple of screenshotscurrently available, there isn’t much to go on. Join us in looking forward to Rockstar’s tried and tested formula of open world craziness and buff up your baseball bats.

The Last of Us

2013 – PlayStation 3
Survival is key in this beautiful-looking post-apocalyptic thriller by Uncharted developer Naughty Dog, in which you travel through long abandoned cities ravaged by nature in your efforts to survive. The E3 demonstration showed various platforming elements as well as very clever A.I. forcing you to think on your feet. Those seeking a true apocalyptic adventure need look no further.

Tomb Raider

March 15th 2013– Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
The latest Tomb Raider outing sees Lara Croft as she was before she took up death defying acrobatics and serves to explain how she became the fearless wise-cracking heroine we all know and love. With a strong focus on survival, puzzle solving and uncharted-style platforming, no adventure fans should give this a miss.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

November 13th 2012 – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC
Set in the 1980s and the not-too-distant future, Black Ops 2 adds mechanical enemies and new weapons including an X-ray gun. “Strike Force” missions also offer a new perspective on the battlefield, creating a more sandbox-like vibe. There’s still no word yet on multiplayer, though we’d bet our bottom dollar that they’ve got it covered with plenty of guns and customisations galore.

2012 – Wii U
The Wii U makes its pitch for hardcore gamers with ZombiU, using that giant controller to innovative effect. The Wii U gamepad can be used to scan for items in game as well as including an integrated map and scope enhancer. And if you’re getting weary of all the flag-waving around the Jubilee and the Olympics, ZombiU’s London setting will serve up a grim alternative to the current crowd-filled streets.

Beyond: Two Souls

2013 – PlayStation 3
The makers of Heavy Rain bring us another cinematic experience – and this time they’ve got a bona fide movie star on board, in the form of Inception’s Ellen Page. The game is set over 15 years and you can expect to play as both her character and the invisible entity she’s bonded to – the former playing like Heavy Rain, the latter playing like… well… Patrick Swayze in Ghost. The graphics are spectacular and the performance capture is some of the best we’ve ever seen.

Splinter Cell Blacklist

2013 – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Sam Fisher returns, this time sneaking around and dealing out death along the Iran-Iraq border. Kinect support and quick, fluid Mark and Execute attacks are on the cards, with the Spies vs Merc multiplayer mode making a comeback after its absence in Conviction. Here’s hoping we’re all as spry as Sam at his age.

God of War: Ascension

March 12th 2013 – PlayStation 3
Kratos is back, with more ridiculous boss battles and new instruments of murder to rain death on his unfortunate victims. Set before the events of the God of War trilogy, the game’s biggest new feature is multiplayer – promising intense eight-player class-based skirmishes as well as big scale boss battles.

Far Cry 3

November 30th 2012 – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Ubisoft’s upcoming FPS puts you right into the heart of a gorgeous, lush and exotic tropical island. Shame about the crazed inhabitants trying to kill you, though. With stealth takedowns littered through a gorgeous sandbox world, Far Cry 3 looks set to be another big hit for Ubisoft this year.

Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation

October 30th 2012 – PlayStation Vita
With the Vita having had a pretty lean year in terms of new game releases, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation looks set to be its saving grace. Set in 18th century New Orleans, Liberation casts you as female assassin Aveline and will let you use all the Vita‘s touchscreen and physical controls to slice and dice your way through the Templar army – using a variety of new toys. It has the same all-new movement and kill animations found in Assassin’s Creed III and it looks simply gorgeous on the Vita’s OLED display.
