HP’s naming department has a lot on its hands – there’s the Omni, Touchsmart, Envy, TouchPad and Sleekbook to contend with – and it sometimes feels that it just can’t make up its mind what to call new computers and laptops. This time around, it’s gone for the Envy and Pavilion monikers for its latest 23in desktop all-in-ones, but who knows what the next lot will be called?

In the meantime, these new HP PCs look like worthy contenders for a spot on our desk: both are available with Intel Ivy Bridge processors (the Pavilion up to Core i5) and sport respectable, though not eye-popping, 1080p (non touchscreen) displays.

The Envy 23’s design looks pretty sexy (in keeping with the laptop series) with edge-to-edge glass and Beats Audio thrown in for good measure. So it’s not all work for the HP user – there’s also the option to pay for HDMI-in, a Blu-ray drive and a TV tuner on board so it could easily be the only screen you need in your bedroom for instance.

The Pavilion 23 has the same 1920 x 1080 screen as the Envy and also comes with up to 2TB of hard drive storage – but there’s a plastic stand to keep the price down compared to the Envy 23’s ‘floating’ looks and there’s no option to pay extra for a touchscreen.

We’ll have UAE pricing and availability when it comes in and hopefully we’ll be taking a touchscreen Envy running Windows 8 for a spin before long.
