RIM reveals BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha smartphone

RIM has revealed its BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha handset at BlackBerry World, during which it also showed the tech world a sneak preview of its upcoming BB 10 OS, which is set to hit BlackBerry 10 devices later this year.

The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha smartphone isn’t a commercial piece of kit – it’s purely for developers to get to grips with RIM‘s software and hardware ecosystem – but it still looks specced to impress, thanks to a HTC One X-beating 1280×768 resolution screen, 16GB storage, microSD card slot and mini-HDMI port.

Build-wise the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha can be likened to a miniature PlayBook, which is actually a good thing, as we’re big fans of the PlayBook’s solid build quality and soft matte rubber finish.

The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha is currently running the PlayBook’s OS 2.0, but if this initial developer hardware is anything to go by then there should be plenty to get excited about RIM‘s upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices. Stay tuned for more info, and check out the preview video below to whet your appetite.
