New fifth-gen iPod Touch on the way

The current iPod Touch is getting a bit long in the tooth, with Apple only adding a lick of white paint to distinguish last year’s refresh from the previous year’s model. But Apple looks set to unleash a fifth-generation iPod Touch, according to an internal iOS 5.1 build file unearthed by 9to5Mac.
The build file lists an iPod Touch 5,1 – the current iPod Touch is internally labelled 4,1 by the Cupertino tech-wizards, suggesting that a refresh of Apple‘s flagship music player is in the offing.
Specs and design info are – unsurprisingly – non-existent at the moment. It wouldn’t be a stretch, though, to expect a new iPod Touch to come packing a dual-core A5 or A5X processor – as seen in the new iPad. Given that the iPod Touch is often used as a gaming device, an improved processor would sit nicely alongside rumours of a forthcoming Apple gaming controller – something we’ve said Apple needs to consider in order to up its game.![]()
