Sharp building displays for Apple’s iTV?

apple-itv

We’ve been hearing more and more buzz about the rumoured Apple iTV – and those rumours have become more concrete as screen supplier Sharp steps up production of displays reportedly destined for Apple’s next-gen tellybox. So great is the demand that Sharp has called in the cavalry in the form of LED supplier Genesis.

We already know that Apple iTV is being tested in homes right now. We also know it should be coming in 40in and 50in versions, both sporting Siri style voice controls. Screen production companies LG, Sharp and Samsung are all Apple suppliers but Sharp is struggling. It has asked LED production company Genesis to start supplying it with greater numbers, presumably in a bid to meet Apple demands.

So when can we expect a shiny Apple screen in our lounge? 2012 is more than likely, but with the iPad 3 coming March 7th and the iPhone 5 expected June 10th, we may have to wait until September for the unveiling of Apple TV.
