HP’s Ultrabook looks like a MacBook Air

Posted July 13, 2011 by Thomas Shambler in News

In the gadget game every millimetre counts and the battle of the ultraportable laptops is set to become more interesting with the news that HP reportedly has a MacBook Air rival – the HP Ultrabook – waiting in the wings. If true, this would form part of a new category of PCs Intel has branded Ultrabooks – a skinny, Intel-based machine combining the performance of a laptop with “tablet-like features”.

DigiTimes thinks we’ll see two or more HP Ultrabooks with i7 Sandy Bridge innards imminently. Since Intel’s Ultrabook guidelines state a maximum thickness of 0.8-inches, HP’s offerings are going to have to shave a few millimetres from their outer shells in order to compete with the 0.68-inches of the MacBook Air and 0.67-inches of Asus‘ UX21.

With Apple‘s MacBook Air only hours away from an official outingSamsung’s Series 9 already flaunting its wares and Asus‘ UX21 – the laptop Intel used to announce its new category – due to arrive in September, there’s certainly room for more in the world of ultraportables. Details are thin on the ground for the time being (pardon the pun), but you’ll have more when we do.
