Apple iPhone 5 will launch in Feb or March, 2011

The new Apple iPhone 5 will sport a slick, all-new design to stave off ‘antennagate’ issues, and launch in Q1 of next year.

These rumours come from the tech-loving lads at the Wall Street Journal who claim the new iPhone launch dates have been pushed forward from the usual Apple release schedule (iPads in March, iPods in Sept, etc.) due to increased competition from high-end Android handsets.

The source of this news comes from suitably vague, “people familiar with the matter” who say the mobile will hit production later this year, ahead of a launch in February or March of next (just after Christmas, damn).

The iPhone 5 is slated to have an all-new design, that would banish the signal problems that plagued Apple’s previous handset, the iPhone 4. The WSJ has said the form factor will change, but there’s no word on whether or not it will sport the curved back still favoured with the iPod Touch.

There are also rumours that Verizon Wireless, a US carrier, is planning to launch the new iPhone – breaking the exclusivity deal that Apple and AT&T have had over previous years.

It’s puzzling that Apple would choose to launch their next handset so close, or at the same time, as the iPad 2. Both are now rumoured to launch in February or March next year.

Hurray! Let’s hope they haven’t been working too hard on finding something that is more fragile than glass to make a phone!

It’s OK to have ads, but not video ads with audio that I can’t kill when I’m trying to read an article. #FAIL.

Wow, I can’t believe you wrote this report. It goes against Apple’s behavior to do this and lessens your credibility.
